Floatplanes schedule 2012

We believe floatplane transportation to be the most comfortable, enjoyable mode of transportation between Queen Charlotte City and Rose Harbour.  Traveling time is about 1 hour compared to 5 to 7 hours by speedboat from Sandspit.  Long boat rides can be very wet, cold and traumatizing (no kidding).  So we decided to organise transportation to and from town mostly by floatplane.  We do meet the floatplane at Hotspring Island weather and boat schedule permitting.

Boats or floatplanes operation and maintenance in remote areas is expensive.  When you will get our price quote for your stay with us,  we have separated all our costs so you can see where your money goes. You will see that a lot of it doesn't stay with us but ends up "up in the air"... 

 

 

 

 

As a rule if you want to pay less per person for floatplane transportation:

  • Groups of 4 and 8 can expect the best price per seat.

  • Having flexibility with your dates is also very helpful to give you a better price.

  • Pick at least one of your arrival or departure date on the same day we have a chartered floatplane if your dates are near the same time we have chartered floatplanes.  If there is no floatplanes chartered around your dates, you get to pick the dates.

What you should know about floatplanes:

  • Amount of luggage space is very limited on floatplanes. 
    Travel light and compact!!!
     

  • Total weight carrying capacity including passengers and luggage:
    Cessna: 780 lbs / 354.55 kg
    Beaver: 1010 lbs / 459.09 kg
     

  • Floatplane are subject to cancellation due to weather conditions like strong winds or low visibility.
    IF YOU WANT TO INCREASE YOUR ODDS THAT YOU WILL CATCH YOUR PASSENGER PLANE OR FERRY FOR SURE.
    We recommend you to:
    Leave Haida Gwaii at least 24 hours after you leave Rose Harbour.
    This means you should stay overnight in Queen Charlotte City or take a few days to visit the northern part of the islands.
     

  • We recommend you to:
    Arrive     on Haida Gwaii at least 24 hours before you arrive in Rose Harbour.
     Missing your floatplane means you will loose your deposit and we will need to charter another floatplane probably just for you at full cost!  A VERY EXPENSIVE MISTAKE!!!
     

  • Floatplane departure times (Pacific time zone) are usually:
    13:00 hour (1PM) from Queen Charlotte City
    14:00 hour (2PM) from Rose Harbour.
