2010 Great news from Thailand to Canada! I met the most wonderful woman in the world! Her name is Walladda and we got married in a traditional Buddhist wedding on November 19th 2009 in Bangkok. Walladda and her family are of traditional Thai Buddhist ancestry from the North East part of Thailand near Non Khai. The area is still mostly agricultural with small rural towns and lifestyle. Ignored by tourism, you can still see vast rice fields, pockets of forests, water buffalos and the odd elephant. Walladda's upbringing is very suited for her new life in the remote location of Rose Harbour. I wish to welcome her into my life and Haida Gwaii!
Walladda is an amazing cook and gardener with a University Degree in environmental science. She is also a Certified Traditional Thai Massage caregiver trained at the ancient and famous Wat Pho school and monastery located in Bangkok. Being from Thailand, she can cook amazing Thai food an other Asian delicacy. She can also cook more "North American" traditional foods (Not McDonalds LOL). She speak adequate English and is always smiling and happy like most Thai people. I am sure you will enjoy her company as much as I do! See you in 2010!
Very bad news for the whole BC North coast!! Please help us! Take action! The British Columbia government has approved the construction of a pipeline between the Tar sands of Alberta to the town of Kitimat, BC. This to provide the dirtiest oil in the world to China! The project is being pushed by a ruthless American company called Enbridge. They will stop at nothing to make this project happen. This is absolute insanity!!! This means we would have super tankers arriving everyday in one of the last pristine coastal area of the world!!! One catastrophe and it will wipe out the whole region of wildlife. We have included a few links to websites if you need more information. The aboriginal people do not want this project to happen, please help them! big news this year. This is Walladda's third season in Rose Harbour
so things should be even better then last year in the kitchen.
We've spent the winter away from Haida Gwaii since we needed to make
some descent income. Season has been slow last year and we
needed to pay the bills. The strange part is Walladda and I
ended up in one of the worse environmental disaster on the planet,
The Tar sands of Alberta which is a big potential polluter on the BC
coast. Patrick is also a journeyman electrician and Walladda
got a job at a camp cleaning contractor in town. Not much to do
here but work. We are eager to get back home for another
season of fun and play in Gwaii Haanas!!! This year's income
will be for new outboards for the boat, A new woodstove for the
guesthouse and a new battery bank for the house and guesthouse. (and
more...).
