Our
apology but our premises ARE NOT suitable for people with restricted
mobility!
Spending
your holiday at
our homestead will give you an opportunity to discover Gwaii Haanas
from the perspective of its long time residents. Our knowledge,
experience and hospitality will make you feel right at home in Gwaii
Haanas. Most of our guests often comment
they don't feel like "tourists" or that we provide "tours"
in the area. We try the best we can to make you feel part of
the family. Our approach gives you a deeper understanding and
a unique experience to what it is like to live in Gwaii Haanas as
a modern homesteader..

Gwaii Haanas best!
OUR
HOMESTEAD:
We are located
in a sheltered bay called Rose Harbour,
deep within Gwaii Haanas National Perk Reserve
and Haida Heritage site.
The area is located at the Southern tip of Haida
Gwaii / Queen Charlotte Islands. Rose Harbour is on the Northern
side of Kunghit Island, the largest Island south of Moresby Island.
MAP
Our location is well suited for sea kayaking from beginners
to experienced outdoor people . Our
home (right) is adjacent to the guesthouse (left) and joined by a
gravel path and two flights of stairs (10
steps each). Our homestead is surrounded by virgin rain forests
on land and the ocean in the front is our "road" to explore
the area by boat or sea kayak. Our facilities are rustic but
comfortable. All the buildings are powered with solar energy
for lighting and communication. You can also charge your batteries
for your electronic equipment like cameras and laptops.
THE GUESTHOUSE:
We
have 4 rooms with a wonderful view of the area. Each room is equipped
with a queen size bed or two single beds as required. The common
room is heated with a woodstove where you can sit and relax with the
other guests. Cold running water is available in the common
room with one tap equipped with a filter for your convenience.
A small propane cook top and a kettle are
always available with tea or coffee whenever you need a fix. A composting
toilet with a fantastic view is located in the guesthouse. The
communal shower is located in our greenhouse surrounded by grape vines
and flowers. Old growth forest surrounds us to offer
you the opportunity to explore a temperate rain forest ecosystem right
from our doorstep. The common room opens up to an outdoor cedar
deck overlooking Rose Harbour and Houston Stewart Channel. Smoking
and pets are not permitted inside any of the buildings.
OUR FAMILY
DWELLING:
The
main floor of our house is always open to
everyone. Meals are prepared and served
at our family table with a great
view of Rose Harbour. Our greenhouse
shelters our shower set
amongst fruit trees, flowers and grape vines. Hot running
water is provided from our wood burning cook stove and solar water
collectors. Our organic garden surrounds the house protected
by a tall fishnet fence to keep the deer at bay.
MEALS:
Served in a communal setting with our guests,
friends and family. Due to Canadian Dept
of Fisheries regulation, our business cannot serve (sell) fresh seafood
when staying at the guesthouse. But our family will gladly
share the catch of the day during meals at no cost to you...
We try the best we can to provide fresh
produce from our garden when available in season. We can usually
accommodate people with food restrictions if they let us know in advance.
Mary's cooking has been described by most of our guests as the best
part of their trip!
